VerificaC19: Your Gateway to Safe Travel in Italy

VerificaC19 is a user-friendly app that streamlines the COVID-19 verification process, enabling travelers to easily access their health credentials while ensuring compliance with public health regulations in Italy.

The Verification C19 app is the official app developed by the Italian government in collaboration with various ministries and the Extraordinary Commissioner for the COVID-19 Emergency. Its purpose is to enable operators to verify the validity and authenticity of COVID-19 Green Certificates issued by the Italian National DGC Platform and other Member States of the European Union.

This app has been developed and released in full compliance with user data protection and current legislation, including the decree-law of April 22, 2021 and the European technical specifications approved by the eHealth Network for the EU Digital COVID Certificate.

The Verification C19 app allows operators to verify the validity of COVID-19 green certifications and EU Digital COVID Certificates by scanning the certificate QR code. It does not store or share scanned information with third parties. The app performs verification offline, without requiring a remote system service. However, it must connect to the backend of the DGC national platform at least once a day to verify certificate authenticity through the European gateway (DGCG), which collects all public keys used to sign EU Digital COVID Certificates.

The workflow of the Verification C19 app involves the following phases:

The person responsible for verification asks the certificate holder to show their QR code.
Using the app, the QR code is scanned and its authenticity is verified using the public key that signs the certificate.
Once decoded, the app displays the main information contained in the COVID-19 Green Certification or EU Digital COVID Certificate:

Name, surname, and date of birth of the certificate holder
Unique identifier of the certificate
Certificate validity
The app verifies the certificate against decoded date information and Italian rules for COVID-19 green certifications.

The person responsible for verification visually checks the correspondence of the personal data displayed in the Verification C19 app with the certificate holder's ID card.
